PM Encourages Chinese Companies to Invest in Cambodia’s Electricity Industry

CHINA: Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged Chinese companies to explore the possibility of training human resources in Cambodia’s electricity industry to contribute to the sector’s development. He also asked that companies continue to study the logistics of expanding Cambodia’s power grid.

On September 14, Prime Minister Hun Manet met with Wen Shugang, the Chairman of the Board of Directors for one largest state-owned electricity generation enterprises in China, the China Huaneng Group.

During the meeting, the PM stated that Cambodia welcomes the import of new and modern technology to develop the energy sector in Cambodia and encouraged companies to learn more about the expansion of the power grid to better serve the interests of the people. He also encouraged companies to develop clean energy systems and battery-powered power systems.

For the initiative to import new technologies to develop the clean energy sector, the PM encouraged the company to continue discussions and cooperation with relevant ministries and institutions to examine the possibilities in the development of this sector.

Chairman Wen Shugang expressed his deep gratitude to the PM for allowing him and the delegation to meet and discuss business, and congratulated the PM on his new role. He confirmed that the company will continue to promote the study of Cambodia’s electric grid and introduce new technologies. He also pledged that his company will get with relevant ministries and institutions and examine the possibility of technical skills training to young people in Cambodia.

The PM thanked the chairman for his good will and praised China Huaneng Group’s many achievements in Cambodia, especially in constructing of the Lower Se San 2 Hydroelectric Dam in Stung Treng Province, which is a large project that presents a model of good environmental practices.

Before concluding, the PM reaffirmed the Royal Government’s support for investment projects from companies that meet the socio-economic needs of Cambodia and the policies of the Royal Government.
